Former MVP Dustin Pedroia Looks to Boost the Red Sox in 2019

A key question for Sox fans as the 2019 season progresses is what to expect from Dustin Pedroia, a former MVP and three time World Series champion. Having gone through a pair of knee surgeries since the 2017 season, the 35-year-old second baseman sat out virtually all of the 2018 season after left knee inflammation became an issue.

Despite having played in no more than 110 games over the past four seasons, former Gold Glove winner Pedroia is an eminently capable hitter who combines a consistent batting average with strong run production when healthy. Considered a workhorse, he has three years remaining on an eight year contract and is set to earn $15 million this year. If Pedroia starts and remains healthy, he could be the boost the Red Sox need in their quest to repeat as World Series champions.
